Campbell’s Cove, located in Sydney, is a stunning precinct that offers captivating views of the harbour. Our lighting design concept aimed to enhance the heritage and urban landscape elements while creating a visually interesting, inviting, and safe environment for visitors and users of the area.
The lighting scheme was designed to minimise visual clutter and provide a safe environment while preserving the spectacular harbour views. To achieve this, the location and selection of lighting elements were carefully considered. The simple form and bronze finish of the pole lights reinforce the arrangement of the precinct during the day and act as an urban marker.
By night, the location of the pole lights ensures that the light source is behind a viewer seated on the boardwalk, reducing visual interruptions to the views. Lighting integrated under boardwalk furniture elements and concealed from direct view provides safety lighting at the water’s edge while minimising intrusions to the views.
The heritage seawall is subtly highlighted with a gentle glow from concealed lighting under the boardwalk, acknowledging the wharf’s history and local tidal patterns. Our lighting design successfully enhances the beauty of Campbell’s Cove while maintaining the natural surroundings.
