Summary

Double Bay House is a sophisticated and contemporary residence in Sydney. The lighting scheme was designed to be restrained and elegant, complementing the clean and defined architectural planes. The balance of planar washing, joinery-integrated light, discrete functional light, and timeless decorative fittings creates a sense of harmony throughout the space.

The exterior screens are lit with linear LED, playing with the interior/exterior threshold and offering privacy to the occupants by creating a dense night-time screen. Warm uplighting to the timber clad soffit caps the external vistas, while uplighting to trees softens the rectilinear form of the facades and guides visitors to the front door.

Inside, the verticality of the double-height lobby is enhanced by narrow beams of light stretching up and down each timber blade, as well as the suspended cluster of glowing pendants. Ambient light bleeding from the timber bulkhead emphasizes the overlapping ceiling and floor planes, with linear light washing down vertical timber surfaces defining the perimeter of the spaces.

Overall, the lighting design creates a sophisticated atmosphere and adds to the modern aesthetic of the home.
