Globe View, London

Summary

Globe View sits alongside the Thames, with views across to Shakespeare’s Globe, Tate Modern and the Shard. The project reopened a previously closed section of the Thames Path, creating a public walkway that reconnects people with the river and the surrounding landmarks.

The lighting was designed as a permanent layer within the space, supporting both the architecture and the artwork without competing with the views. Warm white light washes the internal walls and frames the openings, helping to draw attention towards the Thames and create a comfortable route through the walkway.

Colour-changing projectors are concealed behind the bespoke metalwork, introducing a softer layer of movement across the ceiling and walls. The colour sequences can be programmed for special events, allowing the space to respond and change throughout the year.

During the day, the lighting works alongside the natural light entering through the openings. At night, it gives the walkway a stronger sense of identity, while providing the visibility and orientation needed to make the space feel safe and welcoming.
