Newmarket Green, a neighbourhood steeped in history and rich in heritage, has been revitalised into a vibrant community hub. In partnership with CBUS, Bates Smart, Smart Design Studio, Neeson Murcutt, SJB Architects, and Arcadia, FPOV undertook a lighting design project to create an exceptional experience across its residential, retail, and outdoor spaces. Our approach aimed to honour the site’s storied past while enhancing safety, navigation, and the overall enjoyment for all who visit this renewed precinct.

We approached the lighting design with precise attention to detail, seamlessly integrating lighting elements to elevate the public spaces nestled between the buildings. The lighting scheme not only celebrated the historical significance of the area but also ensured a secure, user-friendly, and delightful experience for residents and visitors. By carefully considering the placement and design of lighting elements, we created an inviting atmosphere that encourages social interaction and fosters community engagement.
Result
One of the most remarkable achievements of the project was the exceptional play space designed for public enjoyment. we implemented a comprehensive lighting strategy that surpassed expectations, transforming the play area into a charming and highly sought-after destination. The thoughtfully integrated lighting elements not only enhanced the visual appeal of the space but also contributed to its functionality and safety, allowing people of all ages to enjoy the outdoor environment even after sunset.
