Ash Dowthwaite is the Studio Director for FPOV’s Gold Coast Studio.
Ash’s journey in architectural lighting design began with a remarkable mentorship opportunity provided by his father, Tony Dowthwaite, a highly esteemed figure in the Australian architectural lighting design community.
Driven by a lifelong passion for lighting, encompassing both the science and the art, Ash embarked on his career path at the dawn of the new millennium, establishing tdld in June 1999.
With 25 years of industry experience under his belt, his expertise has grown in tandem with his educational pursuits, including university studies and ongoing technical achievements through facilities like NIDA.
His longstanding memberships with IESANZ and IALD further underscore his commitment to the field.
In his role, Ash is responsible for the day-to-day operations of FPOV’s Queensland office. He has assumed a leadership position in the market as the company has grown, relishing in the intricacies of the construction process, and taking great pride in delivering world-class projects, not only within Queensland but on a national and international scale.
Ash’s extensive experience encompasses a wide spectrum of projects, ranging from high-end residential to urban lighting, major resorts, and hotels, as well as overseeing the design and construction phases of significant commercial endeavours.
In the current landscape of evolving technology and heightened global awareness of energy consumption, Ash has embraced a focused role in producing sustainable and efficient designs. Leveraging sound design principles, the latest innovations in lighting technology, and an extensive knowledge of luminaires, his designs have found realisation not only throughout Australia but also across Oceania, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
